Henry

Henry is a horse at my stable. He is my favourite by far because of his size, colour, ability and is cheeky personality. I rode him about a week ago, here are some pictures.

Books

Just finished reading a book I got for my birthday, One dollar horse. I was annoyed with myself afterwards for reading it so fast, it is so good! There are happy parts, sad parts, laugh out loud parts, it has to be my favourite book. Anyone can read this book, although I think horse mad people (like me) will incredibly enjoy it! It is the sort of book you can't put down, I read about 50 pages in one go at one point! Its just so addictive! I would strongly advise you to read this!

Best ride ever!

It was the first of my private lessons today! I was so excited because we do lots of jumping and cantering. When we arrived I found I was on my most favourite horse, Henry. He is a bay horse who I think was a showjumper. Most people don't really like him because he can buck quite a bit when you canter and is generally bad tempered, but I just love him. He has only bucked once with me but it wasn't big enough to make me fall off.

We walked down to the school. When we went inside I warmed him up but doing 240m of canter! I loved it because he just goes so fast down the long straights! After his warm-up we started jumping. Its so nice to see his eyes just light up when jumps come out, its like he is a completely different horse! We started of small and got bigger and bigger. It was my first combination but Henry found it too easy! As he is such a good jumper he is so smooth and just a pleasure to ride. It was also going to be my first time cantering over jumps, It was so fun I could do it all day!

Jumping is my favourite thing to do now, its just so fun feeling the horse speed up as you approach the jump, and then getting it just right, the landing and your position, Its just the most amazing thing ever, and Henry is the most most amazing horse to do it on.

Just come over the double in our warm-up!

Cirrus

Today is the last of my group lessons, after this one I will be having private lessons. I found I was riding Cirrus, she is small-ish bay pony that always holds her head so high! As there were only three of us today we were going to do my second jumping lesson. I haven't completely got the hang of the position yet but I think I am getting there. At the beginning we cantered all the way around the 20mx40m arena. Cirrus got very fast at the end of her turn as she charged down the 40m side!

As the horses were all warmed up we started jumping. At the moment we are jumping knee to waist height. I couldn't get any good pictures of me jumping so this is a picture of Cirrus trotting.

Not an everyday thing...

This moring I woke up feeling ill because I have a horrible throat, then my mum came up and said that there was a 8ft python resting on our chimney pots! At first I thought I has not heard right, I thought maybe it wasn't a real snake but then I new everything. A man from a few houses down the road had let his python out to exercise in a room, it then pushed open the window and slithered across the roof tops to our house where it coiled on the chimney pots! The man stayed to watch the snake  incase it fell off the house or decided to go down the chimney, while he waited for help to come. Luckily, the snake stayed led on the pots basking in the sun, about a hour later a man with ladders arrived after the fire brigade and the RSPCA didn't come. The man that brung the ladders went up and secured the ladders onto our roof, then the snake owner came up and carried his python down safely.

The python the first time I saw him.

Horse riding today

Today is my last lesson for a few weeks so I was hoping it would be great. I was riding a pony called Micky. He was ok in the lesson but got a bit scared of one of the other horses which made him play up a bit. As he is still new to lessons he likes to jump over ground poles which was a bit of a shock!
 Here are some pictures.

Dog show

I have just come back from a dog show with Jasper. We entered him into the most handsome dog competition, annoyingly, he didn't win anything! Jasper seemed upset as well as us! Although Jasper did enjoy the rest of the show, mostly because of the lure racing. Jasper was almost the fastest but was beaten by a Greyhound. And we bought Jaspie a chew. There were so many nice dogs there, I saw a Saluki, a Borzoi, a really tiny Italian greyhound, and loads of little sausage dogs.

Although Jasper didn't win, it was still a great day, and Jasper enjoyed himself to. He is so worn out that he is still asleep now after about 2 1/2 hours!

Our day out

Yesterday we all went to Holt country park and then to the beach. Jasper had a lovely time in the wood, sniffing about at trees and doing other doggy things. I spotted a massive slow worm coiled on the side of the path, he soon slithered away! There were some strange sculptures along the way like a stile which was two wooden men holding a rope. When we reached the car park we had some food at a bench while Jasper slept on the wood chip floor.

We then left to drive to the beach, but we stopped of at Burnham Market for a while. While me and my brother were waiting in the car at Burnham Market, it started to rain! Surprisingly we stil went to the beach. When we arrived it wasn't that wet and there was still lots of people there. We walked down the beach with Jasper to keep out of the way of the sun bathing people so Jasper could have a good run. While walking two large, boisterous dogs spotted Jasper in the distance pulled their peg out of the ground and charged towards him! As these dogs where tied together while being on the peg the other dog was really being pulled along! The owner came and got her dogs before anything happened though. When we got to a quiet part of the beach Jasper ran about. There were these large puddles about ankle deepness, I would have liked Jasper to run about in there because I think it would be fun to have a water dog, but Jasper is terrified of water! I tried to persuade him by going the other side and running about. I could see he wanted to come but just was too scared. Then my brother came over the other side and it was just too tempting for him, so he ran through the water over to us! We had a short time on the beach because it was getting late so we went home with a wet sandy dog.

The nest box

Over the holidays I have been painting one of the chickens nest boxes, every year we paint them with different patterns and this year I decided to put stars on it. As I finished today, I put the box in the house and one of our chickens, Bessy, went straight in there!

Today's horse riding

Today is my riding lesson. As it is the holidays, nobody is really around for their lessons, so I had a half hour private lesson. At first I thought it wouldn't be as good because its only 1/2 hour but, it was the best lesson I have ever had!

I had my favourite teacher and I was riding the little black and white pony, Chequers. It felt strange being on my own because I never usually have private lessons. As a warm-up Louise said I could do whatever I wanted like trotting in shapes, going over the ground pole and cantering! I am never usually aloud to canter on these warm-ups because it would get to crowded with all the other horses there. I had 1 lap of really fast canter around the 40m by 20m school and a little hop over the ground pole at a canter.

After about 5 minutes of warm-up we started jumping! Louise warned me that he lands quite hard and would make a in-experienced jumper like me fly forwards! I started of by jumping only about knee hight then we got up to about waist height? I am not to sure about the heights because I wasn't paying attention to that, I having so much fun! I got used to the hard landings and found a good jumping position. After my lesson I un-tacked him and buckled up his rug and I got to put him in his stable.

I really want to have more private lessons even if they are only half an hour, I get so much done and I think I would be a better rider for it. I was a bit put of to begin with because I was on Chequers (he can be naughty!) and it was only half an hour and private, but it turned out to be the best lesson I ever had, and maybe one of the best days of my life! Here are some pictures.

Jasper's new trick

Jasper has recently been learning a new trick, beg. All he does is sit, and wave both his front paws above his head, It looks really sweet!

Our Trip

Yesterday we went to a wood to walk Jasper, and to just have a day out. In the wood the path was covered with slugs! It was discusting. Halfway through our trip my mum spotted a baby frog or toad about the size of a 5p, I caught it and we looked at it and saw it was a baby toad! We let it go back on its way into a bush. The main part of this walk was reaching the pyramid tomb. Its like in Egypt with the pyramids although its a a lot smaller! Then we came across a Lesser Burdock plant which is great fun. It has these sticky buds with hooks like velcro and stick onto your clothes, I enjoy secretly planting them on people and seeing if they notice!

After our walk we went to the village nearby where we went into the pet shop and Jasper sniffed all the discusting pig ears in a box. We brought him some biscuits and a chew stick which he just finished today.  Next, we had something to eat and went home where Jasper slept for hours!

My dog

Today Jasper's brand new collar and lead arrived. It makes him look really smart! It is black leather with big chunky gold buckles, the only problem is that Jasper has a bad habbit of biting his lead, that wasn't a problem before with his chain lead, but now its leather he thinks its a chew toy! Although he has been ok so far.

My fossil

About 6 years ago, me and my family went to Kimmridge, Dorset. There, we went fossil hunting. We found lots of the spiral shaped fossils but not any others. The way to see good fossils is to choose a stone, drop it and hopefully it won't smash into really small pieces. I found a nice stone I dropped it on the floor and this is what I found...

The tail end of a fish! The piece of rock this fossil was in was larger than this so we broke it down so we could keep it. I keep safe in some draws because the scales flake off easily. I was very lucky to find this fossil because, with some research we found out that this fossil is upper jurassic! This means that this fish is millions of years old and it still has its scales! I hoping that maybe a dinosaur bit off his head for a snack but I don't think that actually happened!

Giraffe

A short video of a giraffe when I went to a zoo with our school.

The storm

I cant exactly remember when the storm took place, but I do know it was 2 to 3 weeks ago. It had the biggest lightning strikes I had ever seen, well what I can remember. I filmed the storm for about 10 minutes out of the window, then took pictures of the lightning from the video so I could see the actual strikes! Here are the pictures.

Luckily I have a good time schedule to know when all the events are on! This is the first Olympics I have actually looked forward to seeing, before I thought it was all a bit boring. How wrong I was!

The guinea pigs

My guinea pig enjoying here bath in the summer!
Altogether we have at the moment, 8 guinea pigs. My guinea pig is a texel called Fuzzy. Three of our guinea pigs are male, although 2 of them are babies. The male we use to breed with is called Rupert, he is a long-haired texel. He has fathered around 15 babies which have either kept or sold to a pet shop. At the moment we have three baby guinea pigs, they are all texels like their parents. We don't name the babies because we know that we won't be knowing them for to long, we just call them by their colour! The blonde one with a white stripe, is a male and we will soon be parting with, the chocolate one with a white patch, we want to keep but might have to sell and finally, the one that looks exactly like his mum. He is grey, blonde, black and brown and looks like a different guinea pig on each side!

Today

Today I went to my 1 hour lesson at my riding school. It takes about 45mins to get there by car, but I think it is well worth it! I was riding a small piebald pony called Chequers, I've ridden him before and he can be very good but, if it's a bad day he can be a bit stubborn

The lesson went well but not as well as other rides I have had on him. I really enjoy my lessons, and this was another one to remember. Here is a picture of me and him waiting to go!

For those of you with dogs...

If you have a dog then for a great tasty treat for him/her make them some dog biscuits! I have made lots of biscuits for Jasper, they are great training treats. I have avoided making biscuits with meat because they are a bit unhealthy, the ones I have made are:
  • Peanut butter bicuits
  • Apple and honey bites
  • Cupcakes with doggy frosting (for his first birthday treat!)
If you are interested in doing this for your dog then there are plenty of recipes online. A nice website I found, with a large variety of biscuit flavours is Bullwrinkle homemade biscuits.

Pidgie the pigeon

Pidgie sat on my head!
My family has looked after a few injured or abandoned pigeons, but one of those pigeons became a special pet. We brung him home because he was thin, lost and on his own and could have easily been killed because he was sat in a car park. We kept him for about three months in a box. He slept in the box and in the day we let him fly around in about a 10 metre radius because he didn't want to go to far! After a good days exercise he went back in his box. The day we released him was sad because we would all miss him! We brung him to the same place we took him from, hoping he might remember a old ledge or place he used to sit. We haven't seen pidgie since, we hope thats because he has flown elsewhere for a new home. Here is a picture of him.

Horse riding

As I have said, I have been riding for about
7yrs. I have been to two different riding schools,
one I like a lot more than the other! Here are
pictures of me untacking 2 different horses at
my second stable.

At the moment I can walk, trot, canter and do small jumps (just started doing jumping lessons). I have been on lots of hacks but the best one was when we were out for an hour or more and we got to trot a lot of the way because usually they don't let you trot because there are sometimes some less experienced riders on the hack with us and we can't leave them behind!
I have always wanted to gallop on a beach even though I can't gallop yet! I would love to ride my favourite horse at my stable, Henry because he is very fast and would make a beach trip the best ride for a long time!
